Robert W. Tabor, 86, of Indianapolis was born to Thomas and Ora (Lockhart) Tabor in Indianapolis, IN on February 19, 1922. He went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Monday, September 29, 2008. He proudly served in the United States Army and landed in the Utah Beach area, Normandy, France on July 4, 1944. He was a building contractor most of his life. Bob was a member of the Castleton Church of the Nazarene and was “The Candy Man” to many of the children there. Surviving are loving wife of 61 years, JoAnn Pace Tabor; daughter, Rebecca (Brad) Helmer; granddaughters, Jennifer Jackson, Rachael Jackson; and great granddaughter, Akaisha Hiatt; brothers, Donald (Cheri) Tabor, Kenneth Tabor; sisters, Ruth (Gene) Stack, Norma Winton, Joan Abbott; many nieces and nephews and his loving church family. Robert was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Tabor. Friends may call Thursday, October 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Castleton Church of the Nazarene, 7848 Allisonville Rd. Funeral Service will be held Friday, October 3 at 10:00 a.m. at the church. He will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Castleton Church of the Nazarene Building Fund.

I remember Bob as my handsome cousin. We never spent a lot of time together but I was always impressed by his kind, gentle spirit–much like Uncle Tommy. (I’m Earl and Mamie’s youngest.)
